Did I really just see that?!?
Well, excitement on the way home today! I was standing on the subway platform, on the southbound side, when something caught my eye… It was a guy who had jumped off the platform on my side and was darting across 3 subway tracks to the northbound platform. When I first saw him I had no idea what he was doing. As I watched him dash across the tracks, he came to a stop right by the opposite platform. Suddenly I saw him bend down and lift a man up off the tracks! I wasn’t sure what was happening exactly! He picked the man up over his shoulders and was trying to put him up on the platform. I saw people on the platform try to pull the man up as the ‘hero’ was trying to rescue him. The man looked completely limp (the man was obviously unconscious), so I can only imagine how difficult it was for this guy to pick him up! The man was finally pulled to safety and the man who had saved him dashed just as quickly back over to my platform. I was in shock. All of this happened in a matter of a minute or two! No one else right around me even seemed to have noticed that anything had happened! And honestly I wasn’t sure if I believed what had just happened. A minute later the train came and we were on our way. It wasn’t until almost a week later that the story was in the news. Here is the link from the NY Daily News so you can read the story! So crazy that I saw it all happen! Turns out the ‘hero’ actually works at Columbia as a mechanic! So, I guess even though I don't give people around here much credit, there are plenty of selfless people out there who would risk their own lives to save someone else.
