Still can’t believe we live so close to NYC!

In all my life I honestly never thought I would be living in New Jersey and I never thought I would be working in New York City. It is truly amazing to me that Dan and I are so close to what so many people consider one of the greatest cities in the whole world. This weekend, while we didn’t actually go into NYC, we went to Liberty State Park in New Jersey. It is close to Liberty Island (where the Statue of Liberty is) and Ellis Island and has awesome views of Manhattan. The park has a very long walk way bordering the water and has huge grassy areas where people can just come and hang out or go for a great jog. Dan and I decided to walk around for awhile – from one end to the other and me of course taking lots of pictures along the way. We could see where the two towers of the World Trade Center had been. I wish I had seen the skyline when they were there. As we were walking further down, we noticed (okay, at first HEARD) a group of what had to be over 100 roaring motorcycles roll into the parking lot. There was a ‘Freedom Run’ where multiple riders were gathered to raise money for a charity to benefit first responders to the 9/11 site. I couldn’t get over the number of motorcycles! I told Dan I had to go take a couple of pictures so after we finished walking the length of the walkway we walked through a parking lot filled with motorcycles. I have never seen so many bikes in my life! After walking around for a little while longer, we drove into Jersey City where we had a late lunch. We were in the Paulus Hook section of Jersey City which is very nice and quite expensive real estate wise. If I had to compare it, I would say it is very similar to the Federal Hill neighborhood in Baltimore. We found a nice little restaurant/tavern to eat at and sat outside and enjoyed a relaxing lunch. After lunch, we headed over to the Liberty Science Center to see the movie “U2 3D”. We marched ourselves into the IMAX theater and sat there for a little bit only to realize a little bit before the movie started (after Dan went and asked) that we were in the wrong theater! Oops! We ducked out and headed over to the right theater. After being in the huge IMAX dome though, this theater seemed pretty wimpy! We donned our 3-D classes and watched the show. The movie concert was very cool. Its probably the best seats I will ever get to any concert let alone a U2 concert!

The whole day was nice and relaxing. As we walked around Liberty State Park and looked across the river to see Manhattan, it really did hit me that we actually live so close to NYC! As I said in the beginning, I never thought I would be 30 minutes from the Big Apple but Dan and I need to enjoy it all that we can while we are living so close!
