9 - 5 What A Way To Make A livin'!

Well, its official, I get to commute into NYC everyday. Of course with this commute (taking the NJ Transit train from South Orange to Penn Station and then the subway up to 116th street to Columbia), I am sure I will see all sorts of interesting things and people. After my first week of work I can say that this is definitely true. While on my first day I wasn't exactly sure of myself, I walked around acting like I knew exactly what I was doing. I honestly don't think that half the people I see while commuting know what they are doing either. I have already learned lessons on commuting. See the 'Lessons on New Jersey' to the right of this page. The commute makes for a longer day than I had been used to due to the fact that while in Baltimore I lived about 10 minutes from work, but it is all worth it. The train I take every morning leaves the station at 7:34am; Sometimes I wasn't even out of bed at that time when I was living in working in Baltimore lol. At least I have lots of time to get some reading done which I really enjoy! So far I enjoy my work and I like everyone I work with even if I do miss Baltimore sometimes :-) My hours are 9-5 with an hour for lunch (yes, if you do the math thats a 35 hour work week) and I learned after about the second day that no one gets there before 9am. People tend to wander in after 9, but still before 10. I guess jobs in NYC have to be a little more relaxed on time since everyone is relying on public transportation to get to where they are going. I still haven't quite figured out the dress code though. Some people wear jeans, but for some reason it is hard for me to wear jeans to work - it just doesn't feel right. Of course if someone came out and said, 'Sheri you can wear jeans' I would say 'OKAY!'. Not having to think as much about what to wear to work would be a big relief...
